Great idea, the one thing I would do is add a white background to the top logo so you can't see through it. Also have you thought about installing any SEO Plugins? This will give you SEO Friendly URLs and Sitemaps you can submit in Google Webmaster Tools. Which should both help search engine rankings. Have a look here: phpBB SEO

Any reason why you can only see the content after you have signed up? With Chris's points above about SEO, if crawlers + users could see the content without having to sign up you would probably attract more users. As a parent myself (son is one next week), there has been the odd occasion where we have googled things troubling us, and we are usually looking for our answer without having to mess about signing up before we find our answer. Just a thought
