You know I got a permaban

Banned because of Vidahost

I got banned from the vBulletin website even though I'm paying the knobs money. I have to admit that I was on a bit of a mission but I can't believe how quick they are to ban, I thought I would be able to have more fun

The following message was sent to you via the vBulletin Community Forum Contact Us form by ChemicalKicks

Banning a contributing member for nothing, yet again. Nice customer service.

You brought this on yourself. You are not exempt from the same rules that everyone else has to abide by. This is a 2 week ban. If you continue to treat our forums as a personal playground in which you are exempt from the same rules everyone else has to abide by, then you will be banned permanently. There will be no further warnings or discussion of this.

What was so disruptive about have my small banner link in my signature, bearing in mind you freely allow people to recommend hosting providers. I would have removed the signature if you had sent me a PM and asked me to remove it but what you actually did was issue an infraction, so when you say no warnings next time what you actually mean is no warnings same as before.

Why are you so eager to premaban?

As I clearly said, affiliates links are not allowed by the forum rules. You refused to remove the affiliate link and instead you decided to waste our time with a 'reported' PM and this ticket.

You brought this on yourself. There will be no further discussion of this.

How else can I highlight your apparent obtuseness when deciding to hand
out infractions? You quite deliberately allow affiliate links everywhere
else on the site, you seem to be the only one enforcing this particular
rule and you decide to use it on me.

Quite frankly I think it would only be polite to receive an apology and
my account reinstated. How may I make a complaint about your handling
of this matter?

I have had a discussion with the rest of the team, and at this point we do not feel that your participation on the site is in the best interests of the community. Your account history shows a number of instances where you have elected to disobey our rules, and your discussion here with us shows no desire to change that behavior. As a result your access to the site has been revoked permanently.

Thanks Steve,

Can you tell me how I can make a complaint?

You can't. This was already discussed with and approved by my Manager. This is the final word.

You have to be very careful where you put your affiliate links, I always check the forum rules before adding one.

The main place I use my link now is on my blog, which is where most of my income comes from.

It works quite well

PS - You didn't really get Banned because of Vidahost, you got banned because you broke their forum rules

I'll have to change the subject of this thread as this is nothing to do with us and many people research on our forums before ordering with us / our clients!

Affiliate links are very useful but I can see why they ban them, but they need to ensure the ban is enforced well - but on busy forums it's always hard to do.

rules are rules

forums are hard to moderate if people choose to ignore them.

I never go on forums if i don't agree with the rules and the worst have been those that have no rules.

If I want to "ride" a rule I ask first and tell them why, it often works.
