SSL Certificates

Just a quick question. Do you think it would be a good idea if we increased our range of SSL certificates?

We've been approached by a couple of different providers who offer certificates which different functionalities / different levels of insurance / different numbers of subdomains they cover etc.

Is there any benefit to us showing these on the site, or are the few we have listed enough? The vast majority of people go for the standard £29 cert, and the remainder for the EV.

How about very cheap certs. I mean we are setting up an online shop with payments going through payal so SSL is not needed but its just for customers piece of mind while they are logged into their accounts.

I have seen some ssl certs for as low as £14.

I don't really know much more than that. Not had many sites with SSL

The problem with making them too cheap is that they become a commodity and of course everyone would want one - there is a cost to us in terms of time ordering/installing the certificate, as well as our IP allocations and so on.

Our certificates are significantly cheaper than most other UK providers I believe

Ah yes I forgot you have to have a dedicated IP address. Is all that included in the price then?

Also how much do you charge for a dedicated IP Address for shared hosting as I was looking at the cheap SSL cert here:

SSL Certificates from DomainDonkey.co.uk - low cost security certificates for website and data encryption

The only reason I need it is because I have created a custom paypal payments page and I host the logo myself that is on it. The problem is that the paypal site is secure and my logo isn't so it throws up a browser warning message to users

Or is there an easier was to get round this? Like somewhere to securely store an image file without an SSL cert?

£15 +VAT but ask nicely and I can maybe reduce that

Let me know via dom@vidahost.com if you'd like a CSR generating.

Edit: In fact, even easier is to use the server's shared SSL certificate - https://caracas.footholds.net/~username/... for your site

Have you considered offering Comodo SSL certificates, the ones which have the red triangle at the bottom right corner of the screen, I used to have one for one of my sites and know they are pretty expensive but could be worth offering these, also know you can get bulk discouts.

I recently purchased the basic ssl cert, and was very impressed with the speed on installation and the price etc. Would and do recommend it.

We can provide various SSLs through Enom but chose the current ones as a broad overview & all are Geotrust (except the RapidSSL) - I'll add the others to our SSL page in the near future as selling any is no problem. Happy to sell a $1499 Verisign cert if asked to!
