I am signing up as a new customer with Vidahost and was thinking of using Magento Community as my cart. However, I note from other reviews and forum sites that there seems to be issues with the front and back end speeds. Does anyone have any experience of the speed of Magento and if there are issues with it what other cart would you recommend? (I am looking to set up a website with a few hundred products on it with multiple photo's) Chris |

Magento should be fine speed wise. Vidahost have just setup a new Super Fast Server. Im sure if you ask them nicely they will set you up on that

We host a few Magento sites which run very well indeed - for ultimate speed take a look at our Business+ Addon which uses solid state disks!

I am not sure I could afford the Business add on at this time, although it looks very good. But thanks for your response. I am new to website building but think I will give magento a go (although I think I will need to refer to some beginners guides!)as it seems to be the best flexibility wise. I am buying my hosting with you on Monday and maybe if I end up on your Super Fast Server that would help? |

I used ZenCart on one of my sites in development (Dog Star Clothing, You think it we print it!) I thought it did everything super well, but now I'm having a look at this Magneto, ... I am shall we say, indecisive which is best. | |

I think at the end of the day it comes down to what features you require and what you want the system to do

When set against oscomerce based applications (like zen, cre-loaded and good old oscommerce itself) Magneto is lacking way behind isn't it. I mean the has been years of addons being up to the market and most of them are free. At the very worst you might stuggle to follow an install readme file. Funny really because for years developers struggled to get a foothold in that market mainly becasue the were free choices available but now magneto seems to have taken the imagination. Can't for the life of my see why, it's like choosing a 2 gig installed of MS Office over a notepad in order to write a note for the milkman imo.
