| FTP Client Reviews
I'm looking for some comparison of FTP clients I can pass on to our clients. Which FTP clients do people here use? I use Coda when I'm working on sites (mac), and LeechFTP when I'm doing simple file uploads on a PC. I love the simplicity of LeechFTP, but it's unfortunately been discontinued. It doesn't try and do anything fancy. What FTP clients do people use and why?

I loved SmartFTP until they made it paid only, currently using Filezilla which is pretty much ok. Guess the most important features to us devs are: - Connections manager - Tabbed interface for being connected to multiple concurrent servers - Multiple threads per connection, so if you are deploying a web service which a large amount of files, it can be working on multiple files at once You'd be surprised how many dont do those 3, think Filezilla only put tabbed interface in recently

I still use from time to time the free lite version of Ipswitch WS_FTP. Although this free version is no long available from the website there are places you can still obtain the install file. I would purchase the current full version, as its come on leaps and bounds since the early days, however for now I mainly use the in built FTP which come with Ultra Edit, more convenient , although I find this a bit limiting at times, not as many features available even on the old free WS_FTP . Also notice that large files seem to upload quicker with WS_FTP. For now I will stick with I have, but I certainly would consider purchasing WS_FTP if I require a better FTP programme. I use FileZilla and am yet to find something to beat it! Was always a SmartFTP user but made the switch a couple of years ago and never looked back!

I while back I started having problems with FTP clients, just could find one thatI was happy with with so I tried all the free ones I could find. Although most did a decent job and some where faster then others, the only one I was comfortable with and did what I wanted was FileZilla and so I stick to that now.

Another vote for FileZilla, it's very regularly updated and works very well for massive amounts of files as well as very large files.
